Evening Manchester United started their Champions League campaign at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
United, who returned to Europe's elite club competition following a year-long lack after winning the Europa League last year, dropped Paul Pogba to harm in the first half but his replacement, Marouane Fellaini, made an immediate impact, opening the scoring in the 35th minute.
Romelu Lukaku extended the hosts' advantage before substitute Marcus Rashford made on what was a night for Jose Mourinho's side, the points safe.
Mourinho handed Pogba the captain's armband but his night was cut picking up what looked like a hamstring injury.
Fellaini replaced United and him took the lead minutes later when Lukaku drove to the byline before picking Henrikh Mkhitaryan, whose shot rebounded off the post out.
United took the lead and it was replacement Fellaini who broke the deadlock cross goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik his club career in England's goal.
The hosts extended their lead straight and it was another crossover that resulted in the problems. Daley Blind picked in the left out Lukaku, and the Belgium used his power to get at its end, heading the ball .
Minutes later, United made it three but this time Vaclik stood tall to palm the header before David De Gea pulled to deny Mohamed Elyounoussi to security of Lukaku.
